Down the lane I see the blackberries are not yet ripe. I used to gather hedgerow fruits with my Dad, for him to make wine.

We gathered elderberries, blackberries, sloes, damsons, rosehips, billberries – all sorts, as well as garden fruits. He made some good wines!

and to think, last year I started picking blackberries in mid-July – earliest ever! this year – there’s a few ripe ones but not enough to gather – yet…
