Kitchen table discussions;
trying to set the world to rights,
without success.

Other Men’s Words 2

“Every man takes the limits of his own field of vision
for the limits of the world.”

Arthur Schopenhauer

Hard Frost

Snow in short supply this winter,
I awake to a world of white.
A bitter, cold, hard frost
will have to suffice!

Trick or Treat

The veils between the worlds are thinned.
Harvest all is gathered in.
Lock the doors from restless souls
and children dressed as ghosts and ghouls;
trick or treat!

Final Day

Small Stones final day;
I though I had nothing to say
but —
outside a cold wind blows,
the sun peeps out from behind the clouds
that scurry across the sky
and a rook perched at the top of a tree
watches the world go by.

Down on the Boat…

I look up at a forest of silver-grey masts
silhouetted against the blanketing dark-grey clouds
and contemplate a world without colour.

Sailing Quote 2

“Any damn fool can circumnavigate the world sober. It takes a really good sailor to do it drunk.”

Sir Francis Chichester, round-the-world yachtsman
