In the Wings

Magnolia corps de ballet
clusters in the wings;
Degas dancers waiting to burst
onto the stage.

Fallen Angels

Sycamore seeds
scattered across the path
like many little pairs of wings
discarded by fallen angels.

Peacock butterfly
flexing its wings up and down,
basking in sunlight.

Preening and fluffing
their feathers,
stretching alternate wings
into the rain;
pigeons on the fence
taking a shower.

Against the clear blue sky
a glider tips his wings,
and for one short moment
the reflected silvery sunlight
hides him from view.
