More Haste

More haste, less speed they say,
and so it seems, as I unweave
the inches I had hastily woven;
a futile attempt to make progress
before I went away!

On the Boat

Arrived on the boat today
for a few days away,
knowing and fretting that back at home
my weaving isn’t progressing.

Feeling Good

Design finalised, colours chosen,
making a start at last
on a new weaving project.
It’s a good feeling.

A Little Tweak

I can’t believe how quickly
I got the loom set up.
A little tweak here,
a little tweak there
and everything works like clockwork.

Moving the Loom

Yesterday was spent moving the loom
to its new location in the new room,
completely dismantled, taken to bits,
reassembled, remembering where everything fits.
Now all that’s needed is adjustment of tension
(last time it took far too long to mention).
I need to get weaving as soon as can be,
I have a deadline to meet next spring you see.

Warping

to weave a new
design.

This Elfje also appears today on my other blog, Simply Elfje.

While I shall try to continue with this blog regularly please forgive me if I miss the odd day. Writing may take a bit of a back seat over the next few months and much of what I write may be about weaving.

I have committed myself to taking part in a Woven Tapestry exhibition, with 5 other weavers, from the end of May to early July next year. This is a major step for me as I am relatively new to weaving. The others are all much more experienced and thankfully, very friendly and helpful. The upshot it that I have only a few months to produce a fair body of work and shall be weaving on all three of my looms almost simultaneously!

I have just finished a project on my big floor loom, with more planned, but now I need to dismantle it to move it from the bedroom it is in at the moment into our new conservatory/day-room which will be my studio! I am nearly ready to start on the frame loom pictured above. My smaller, more portable frame loom will also be pressed into service as it is easy to take with me if we go away and pieces worked on it can be done fairly quickly. If only I could work all the projects as quickly as I can plan them! I shall no doubt update you on progress from time to time.

Hopefully Simply Elfje I hope will not be affected as much of it is submissions from other writers – please note that I am currently open to submissions and details of how to submit can be found on the blog which you can access via the link above.

Undoing

Undoing the weaving
I did last night;
simply not satisfied,
must get it right!

Preparing

Preparing wool for dyeing
ready for weaving,
resulting colour wondering;
nerve-wracking!
