While It’s Warm

With the sun
the bees come
gathering pollen
while they can.
Ants too
begin to swarm
while it’s warm.
Standing like a giant I
watch life in miniature
passing by.

Grey Smoke

Against the wintry pallor of the evening sky
a lone chimney breathes a steady plume
of grey smoke into the cold, still air.
Out of sight around the hearth a family keeps warm.
