must walk its pages with his feet.”

Footprints

Footprints in the snow.
I return following
my own outward track.

I wrote this after walking to my local grocery store on Sunday morning but as I do not post on Sundays I saved it for today. We had a moderate fall of snow and it was still snowing. I was surprised how few people were about; mine seemed to be the only tracks for most of my walk. Magical.

Teasing

Today is cooler than expected.
I go out without a coat,
tell myself;
walk briskly, stay in the sun.
Clouds float by, teasing –
oh no you won’t!

Still Summer

A brisk walk in sunshine,
dog at my heels,
so warm I could almost believe
it is still summer.

Red Lead

On a dull day
a black dog on a red lead
takes his owner for a walk.
