Footprints in the snow.
I return following
my own outward track.

I wrote this after walking to my local grocery store on Sunday morning but as I do not post on Sundays I saved it for today. We had a moderate fall of snow and it was still snowing. I was surprised how few people were about; mine seemed to be the only tracks for most of my walk. Magical.

Silently creeping overnight
Winter returned with snow
and everywhere is white,
except for where, along the road
car tracks straight as tramlines show
as black as night.

Paw Prints

Cat paw prints and bird tracks
in the snow
tell their own story.

This is one of the first ‘small stones’ I ever wrote after I had discovered Fiona’s daily small stones at her blog ‘a small stone’ and long before I started this blog. Seeing so many bird tracks underneath the feeders reminded me of this stone and I decided to post it even though the snow is now melting – we are however promised more!
