Keeping me awake
overnight; how the wind howled.
Now I need some sleep.

Unable to sleep.
In the darkness my thoughts whirl.
A storm-tossed vessel.

Cooler, fresher,
windy, showery,
sunny spells.
Night-time bliss,
catching up on sleep
at last.

in the heat.
Tossing and turning,
unable to sleep.

Poor Chloe

Poor Chloe, my cat, is off her food
and has a gurgling tummy.
All she wants is time asleep
and lots of cuddles from mummy.

Drumming against the window pane
all night the rain
kept up its rhythmic, incessant beat
accompanying my restless sleep.

Too hot to sleep
I toss and turn,
dozing and dreaming,
waiting for dawn.

Round and round the room,
up and down the hall,
Tiny Tom has found his feet,
never stopping, though he’s tiring,
slowing but not giving in,
little tumble, tears and cuddle,
then there’s silence, sleep.

I spent yesterday afternoon looking after my grandson – not so tiny now!

A whole weekend of catching up
and still not all talked out.
The rest will keep another year,
for now I need some sleep!

River of Dreams

Heavy eyelids drag me into sleep,
drifting gently down the river of dreams.
Small stones jostle in the swirling eddies
but I cannot reach them.
