Thanks

Robin
where I've been digging,
looking for grubs,
a gleam in his eye
askance at me as if
in thanks.

Hidden

Robin
singing merrily
in holly tree,
hidden among the branches.
Evensong.

Redbreast

A lull in the showers,
through the dark clouds the sun peeps
and at the bird feeder
a robin redbreast.

Grab a Grub

Opportunistic robin hops over
to where I’m digging,
cocks his head at me, then
darts in to grab a grub!

Digging

Digging
out weeds,
while perched nearby,
waiting for grubs, watching;
Robin.

Rowdy Crew

Robin waits
while blackbird feeds.
Blue-tit follows on behind.
Then long-tailed tits, a rowdy crew,
scurry in to join the queue.

January Joy 18

Searching for joy,
what can I see?
A bright breasted robin
in the bare cherry tree
flit down to the feeder,
grab just one seed,
then into the hedge
at remarkable speed.

Bullfinch on the ivy,
red breast glowing more brightly
than a robin.

Queueing

At the feeders a sparrow and bluetit,
on the tree stump close by a robin sits,
low in the cherry tree a blackbird watches
and on the fence two pigeons wait,
queueing up for breakfast.

First

When I fill
the bird feeders anew
robin and blackbird
are first in the queue.
