Thunder and Lightning

we had
thunder and lightning
last night. I heard

All day long the snow fell.
Over night
the blanket of white
survived the freezing weather.
But now the sky is clear
and bright
and slowly, oh so slowly
the snow begins to melt.

Sleepless night,
restless mind whirling,
I listen to the hall clock
chiming the hours away
until morning.

Peacock butterfly
did you alight
inside my house
to rest for the night?
Now it is morning
you’re drawn to the light
with a ‘please let me out,
I want to take flight’.

Living Dangerously

Sleepless night, I seek a cool breeze
by the bedroom window.
Out of the shadows below
a hedgehog bumbles across the road,
living dangerously.

During the night
the clock stopped.
It took until mid-day
for me to miss its tick!

Cherry Tree

The trunk of the cherry tree
steams in the morning sunlight
after a day of rain
and a night of frost.

is King.
Night and day
in balance. Scales soon

Lone Wolf

Silver moon-lit night,
wind low-moaning through the trees.
Plaintiff lone wolf howls.

Snow overnight gone by noon.
Hardly knew it was there —
gone so soon.
