After Morning Rain

Cycling in the afternoon,
after morning rain,
under clear, cold skies,
we pass a field of languid cows
who slowly turn their heads
to follow us
with their mournful gaze.

Sleepless night,
restless mind whirling,
I listen to the hall clock
chiming the hours away
until morning.

First Frost

Pale moon shows her face
in the early morning light.
Icy moonbeams linger on the lawn.
First frost.

Peacock butterfly
did you alight
inside my house
to rest for the night?
Now it is morning
you’re drawn to the light
with a ‘please let me out,
I want to take flight’.

On a bright and crisp morning
I pedal the cobwebs away —
me and my bike against the cold!

Morning meditation;
unwelcome thoughts intrude,
jolt me back into the day.

January Joy 21

A hot shower
on a cold, frosty morning.

January Joy 14

To wake this morning
to a light dusting of snow;
icing on a cake.

Joyous January

Happy New Year to all my readers. This month I am going to take part in WOWH’s (Writing our way home’s) Joyous January. The intention is to write each day about one thing that brings you joy. As I don’t normally post everyday it will be a bit of a challenge – I may resort to two or three things on my normal posting days!

Day one: A crisp, clear, frosty morning to great the New Year (especially after all the rain we’ve had lately!)
