Sign of the Times

Garden centres closed.
Nowhere to buy bedding plants.
I’ll grow veg instead!

Just Py

Today I met Pythagoras,
my son and family’s new puppy.
Perhaps one day he will grow
into his name, but for now
he is just Py.

All along beside the road
the dandelions grow,
row on row,
like many thousand tiny suns aglow.
Why it should be so
that this year so many grow
in rows beside the road
I do not know.

Twelve months ago
my Grandson was born,
twelve whole months of joy.
Today is his birthday —
one year old, and my goodness,
how he has grown!
