Robin Redbreast watches and waits
while I fill the feeders,
then flits in for a feast —
the first to come for breakfast.

January Joy Day 2

Joyful January Image

Birds flitting back and forth to the feeders
bring joy on yet another grim, damp day.

never seen before
visiting the feeders
and later, back for more!

Lined Up

Pigeons lined up
along the branches,
waiting for me
to fill the feeders.

Yesterday bedraggled pigeons
visited the feeders.
Today they come,
feathers fluffed and dried
in the sun.

After Rain

After rain on parched earth
calm, silent and humid day.
Where are the birds?
They have not come to the feeders.

While I was away the birds
almost emptied the feeders,
so I refill them
and watch them feast once more.

We have been down to our boat for a few days, to prepare it for the winter. We had hoped to take the sails off and bring them home for laundering but with gale force winds we didn’t dare risk unfurling them so they will have to stay there until the New Year now. In our absence the birds have obviously decided they need the supplementary feed I offer!

Bird feeders refreshed
but no birds feed.
With Nature’s bountiful berries
perhaps there is yet no need.
