Blow Wind, Blow

Blow wind, blow,
blow the clouds along,
sweep away the rain showers,
bring sunshine and birdsong.

Race

Clouds,
wind-blown,
race each other,
jostling for position, destination
unknown.

Teasing

Today is cooler than expected.
I go out without a coat,
tell myself;
walk briskly, stay in the sun.
Clouds float by, teasing –
oh no you won’t!

Sheep

Fluffy clouds scud across the sky
like a scattered flock of sheep.
Soon more sheep gather growing fast,
until you cannot tell one sheep from another,
from horizon to horizon they cover
in one vast fluffy flock,

Fibo-Ku

Sun
shines
brightly,
but clouds come
drifting slowly by,
shadows fall, stretching and shrinking
like unworldly living creatures flexing their muscles.

This is my first attempt at writing a Fibo-Ku, a form based on the mathematical Fibonacci Sequence. Each line contains the number of syllables indicated by the sequence number – i.e. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13. You will find a more complete explanation, with better examples at ‘Bastet and Sekhmet’s Library’ blog here, which is where I first came across the form.

Rearguard Action

Winter fights a rearguard action,
driving back the warmth of Spring.
Cool air casts a cloud-filled shadow,
but hope is in the song birds sing.

Clouds Roll

Waves of dark clouds roll
over from the west; cannot
swamp the morning sun.

From Above

This Elfje is the first of the ‘stones’ written whilst I was away. It will also appear today at Simply Elfje:

Flying
to Spain,
from above clouds
look just like arctic
seascape.

Dawn

Peach coloured dawn,
clouds rush by dragging
a heavy grey blanket.
Barometer plummets.

Loss

Gentle drizzle falls.
Cloud covered leaden sky mourns
the loss of summer.
