Cycling in the afternoon,
after morning rain,
under clear, cold skies,
we pass a field of languid cows
who slowly turn their heads
to follow us
with their mournful gaze.

All night and most of the day
she stayed away.
I fretted and worried,
I called her name,
she never came.
Now in the mid-afternoon,
she is here.
It’s quite clear
she wonders why all the fuss.
She cleans her bowl, herself,
and falls asleep
in her favourite chair.

Sunshine and a good sailing breeze,
at last the wind has changed its tune.
We’ll cast off our lines, let fly our sails
up the coast with the tide this afternoon.

The weather looks set fair at last, no strong winds, just scattered showers and the sun breaking through, so this looks like being my last chance to post for a few days.
Moving the Tree

A crisp, sunny autumn afternoon
so we moved the fir tree
that was squashed in the corner
with no room to grow.
Now we hope it survives the trauma.

This beautiful little tree had been planted in the cleft of a double-skin wall by the previous owner of our house. It had no room to expand and was pushing the wall over. We removed one section of the wall to get it out, unfortunately damaging the roots a bit, but I really hope it survives in its new location.
