Close Encounters

Close
encounters of
the lorry kind
out on our bikes
today!

It is amazing how many drivers just do not get the message – today it was a lorry driver but we often have the problem with cars as well. When will they learn closes passes are not acceptable, the requirement is to leave a 1.5 meter space. It’s not as if anything was coming the other way to cause a problem, and if there had been then the overtaking driver should wait until safe to pass.

    When there isn’t a designated bike lane…
I know that in our area certain motorways unmotorized bikes aren’t allowed.
All in all it does seem difficult to get around when drivers of larger vehicles don’t follow road ruled. Take care of yourselves on the roads!!

I had flashing lights and was wearing a fluorescent yellow jacket -clearly visible! It was also a straight stretch of road. We usually try to stick to the quieter roads but everywhere was so wet and muddy the slightly busier roads were the best option. Another lorry from the same local haulier passed us perfectly correctly about 2 minutes ahead of this one.
