Morning Sounds

Through the open window
morning sounds,
but only the gently cooing doves
are not drowned
by the angry hornet hum
of rumbling lorries
droning by.

I love this one Libby. And I love, love the call of the doves and wood pigeons in the morning. They give me a safe feeling for a reason I find hard to explain. I wrote a poem about a collared dove recently, watch this space 😊. Your poem gave me a safe feeling too.

We do hear other birds but the doves are the most common these days, I too love their gentle sound, but wish they would allow some of the other birds at the feeders!

Tucked just a tad bit away from all the traffic now. But I have lived in places where the sounds of mechanics drowned out all bird call.

We live near the main route through our small town, though not a major highway. The traffic doesn’t always drown out the bird-song but, with the windows open due to the heat I seemed to be more aware of the traffic – heavy lorries to and from the local industrial park rattling on the drain covers! Fortunately we don’t get too many of them ususally.
