Restless Night

A restless night
tossing and turning,
a small boat adrift on a stormy sea.

Thousands of thoughts
around my head rolling,
sleeping and dreaming elusive to me.

Each random thought
comes blustering, billowing,
following one and leading yet more.

Wave washed and weary
I drift into morning
and find I have gently drifted ashore.

If we could only sail off together, perhaps we would feel less lost.
There is always a relief with dawn, even a weary winter one.
