Out of Season

No breeze.
The ash-keys hang limp,
like bunches of dull brown blossom
out of season

    I’m unfamiliar with the term ash-keys…a plant? Ah, a tree – the seeds do look like a punch of hanging keys! I think I’ve seen some around here. I just didn’t know what they were. I Googled ‘ash-key’ and clicked on a wonderful page of images.

    Yep – over here the seed pods of the ash tree are known as ash-keys.

    the funny thing about ash keys is they seem to be almost always there, almost always out of season…
